2025年9月12日（金）、コートジボワール建築家協会（OACI: the Order of Architects of Côte d’Ivoire）の視察団20数名が安井建築設計事務所 東京事務所を訪問しました。小山光JIA国際委員がレポートします。

コートジボワールの建築家視察団との交流　小山光

本プログラムは大阪・関西万博2025にあわせて企画されたスタディツアーの一環で、若手を中心とする建築家が日本の現代建築を学ぶことを目的としています。「美土代クリエイティブ特区」と名づけられた同オフィスは1966年築の建物をリノベーションしたもので、まちに開かれた1階空間、吹抜けでつながるフロア構成、既存建築の再利用やZEB Orientedの取得など、サステナビリティとウェルビーイングを実践する場となっています。

渡邉弾氏（安井建築設計事務所 国際部 主事）の案内による見学の後、代表的プロジェクトの紹介が行われ、JIA国際委員長・坂田泉氏からはケニアでの活動を通してアフリカへの思いが語られました。さらにOACI会長のJoseph Amon氏からは、建築家が全国で約300名に限られるコートジボワールにおいて、国内で新たに始まった建築教育や若手人材育成の重要性が強調されました。現在、国内には2つの建築大学が設立され、昨年は16名の建築家が新たに卒業しました。Amon氏は「若い建築家に世界を見せて学ばせたい」という今回のツアーに込められた意図を紹介し、日本の建築家もぜひコートジボワールを訪れ、互いの環境や課題を直接共有し合う機会を持ってほしいと呼びかけました。

今回の訪問は、コートジボワールの若手建築家にとって日本の先進的なオフィスや設計思想を学ぶ機会であると同時に、日本側にとってもアフリカの建築界が直面する現実や熱意を理解する貴重な機会となりました。交流を通じて、異なる社会背景を持つ建築家同士が未来に向けた共通の課題を共有し合い、協力の可能性を探る場となったことは大きな意義があります。今後、人的交流や共同プロジェクトを通じて、JIAとOACIの関係がさらに発展していくことが期待されます。（小山 光／JIA国際委員）

Exchange with architects from Côte d’Ivoire _ KOYAMA Akira

The programme formed part of a study tour organised in conjunction with Expo 2025 Osaka–Kansai, designed to give young architects in particular the opportunity to learn from contemporary Japanese architecture. Known as the “Mitoshiro Creative District”, the office is a 1966 building that has been revitalised through renovation. It features an open ground-floor space connected to the street, floors linked by an atrium staircase, and incorporates sustainable practices such as the reuse of existing structures and the acquisition of ZEB Oriented certification, alongside biophilic design elements to promote wellbeing.

Following a guided tour conducted by Ar. WATANABE Dan (Senior Assistant Manager, International Dept., Yasui Architects & Engineers, Inc.), representative projects of the practice were introduced. Ar. SAKATA Izumi, Chair of the JIA International Relations Committee, then spoke about his commitment to Africa developed through his activities in Kenya. OACI President Joseph Amon went on to highlight the situation in Côte d’Ivoire, where the number of registered architects is still around 300 nationwide. With two schools of architecture only recently established and 16 graduates last year, he emphasised the importance of education and the development of young professionals, stressing that the purpose of this tour was to “show young architects the world and allow them to learn from it”. He also extended an invitation to Japanese architects to visit Côte d’Ivoire in the future, so that both sides may share their experiences and challenges directly.

The visit was not only an opportunity for young Ivorian architects to encounter Japan’s advanced office design and architectural philosophy, but also for the Japanese side to gain a deeper understanding of the realities and aspirations of Africa’s architectural community. Through such exchanges, architects from different cultural and social contexts can recognise common challenges for the future and explore ways of working together. It is anticipated that this encounter will lead to further personal exchanges, collaborative projects, and a stronger relationship between JIA and OACI.
