World Architecture Day 2026 Webinar "Housing for All: The Role of Architects in Disaster Relief and International Cooperation"
Updated: Sep 12, 2026

2026年のUIA(国際建築家連合)世界建築デーのテーマは、“Housing is a Human Right. Build It.

The theme of the International Union of Architects (UIA) World Architecture Day 2026 is “Housing is a Human Right. Build It.”
In the face of a global housing crisis, architects are called upon to consider how they can contribute beyond design to safeguarding fundamental social rights. This webinar highlights two pioneering cases that, despite their contrasting contexts, share a unified purpose:
▶Disaster Relief (Urgency & Advanced Technology):
“Instant House” by Keisuke Kitagawa — Rapid and accessible construction to preserve the dignity and safety of disaster victims.
▶International Cooperation (Sustainability & Regionally Adapted Technology):
“Black Cotton Soil Project” by Izumi Sakata — Utilizing Kenya’s waste soil to create affordable and sustainable housing environments.
By exploring the dual perspectives of “disaster relief” and “international cooperation,” we will engage in a deep discussion on the architect’s role in securing the fundamental human right to housing, sharing insights and messages from Japan with the global community.
